Over the past two days, Kuwait’s Ministry of Public Works has operated at peak readiness, responding swiftly to widespread water accumulation caused by intense and unstable rainfall. The downpour led to significant pooling in multiple areas, particularly at critical locations connected to major highways, posing risks to traffic flow and public safety. Field operations were intensified under the direct supervision of the Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, who conducted inspection tours alongside senior officials. Her visits focused on monitoring emergency teams tasked with draining water from affected areas, with particular attention given to high-risk locations, reports Al-Rai daily. During a field tour in Sabah Al-Ahmad, Al-Mashaan reaffirmed her commitment to hands-on oversight, praising the rapid response of technical crews working to contain the situation and maintain smooth traffic movement. She issued directives to maximize efforts, mobilize all available resources, and ensure the swift handling of any consequences resulting from the heavy rains. She also stressed the importance of continuous coordination among relevant authorities to safeguard citizens and residents. According to informed sources, the minister inspected several sites where water levels had risen significantly, particularly near main roads, and instructed emergency teams to act immediately to prevent disruptions and maintain traffic flow. At the operational level, Undersecretary Eid Al-Rashidi confirmed that the ministry had raised its preparedness to the highest level. Through its central operations room, teams have been monitoring developments around the clock and responding to water accumulations across all governorates. Emergency crews have been deployed nationwide, equipped with vehicles, pumps, and specialized machinery to ensure rapid intervention. Al-Rashidi emphasized ongoing coordination with other government entities, particularly in areas experiencing severe flooding. Efforts have focused on facilitating water drainage and preventing traffic congestion, ensuring that road networks remain functional despite the challenging conditions. The ministry’s official spokesperson, Ahmed Al-Saleh, confirmed the deployment of emergency units to the most affected locations. Additional water pumps and tankers have been strategically distributed to prevent the closure of major roads and accelerate the removal of accumulated water. In response to rising water levels, the Ministry of Interior implemented temporary road closures and traffic diversions. Key routes, including sections of King Abdulaziz Al Saud Road (Fahaheel), were closed or rerouted to ease congestion and maintain safety. Traffic was redirected through alternative routes, including the Sixth Ring Road and internal roads, to ensure smoother movement across affected areas. Amid the adverse weather conditions, authorities also introduced precautionary measures to protect workers. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry called on delivery companies to temporarily suspend outdoor operations, while the Public Authority for Manpower instructed all companies engaged in external work—such as contracting and delivery services—to halt activities until conditions improve, prioritizing worker safety. Meanwhile, Kuwait Municipality mobilized its full capabilities to support national efforts, deploying heavy equipment, water tankers, and pumps across all governorates. Crews also worked to clear debris and fallen trees from roads to restore normal traffic flow. The Ministry of Social Affairs confirmed its full readiness, with rescue and support teams on high alert to help wherever needed. In close coordination with other relevant authorities, the ministry ensured rapid response capabilities to address any emergencies resulting from the severe weather. As Kuwait navigates the aftermath of exceptional rainfall, the coordinated national response reflects a unified commitment to public safety—working tirelessly to restore normalcy and keep the country moving despite the challenges posed by nature.
