Central Bank waives withdrawal fees in festive boost for Eidiya demand

The Central Bank of Kuwait has issued a directive to all local banks prohibiting the collection of any fees on customer withdrawals intended for Eid al-Fitr gifts (Eidiya), regardless of the amount or denomination. The measure applies to all commonly requested banknotes, including 1, 5, 10, and 20 Kuwaiti dinars, ensuring that this seasonal service is provided entirely free of charge. According to informed sources, the directive effectively exempts Eid-related withdrawals from the standard fee structures some banks impose on cash transactions below specified thresholds, reports Al-Rai daily. Typically, such fees are applied when withdrawals fall under minimum limits — ranging between 1,500 and 2,000 dinars — depending on each bank’s policy. However, these restrictions have now been lifted for Eidiya withdrawals, in line with the Central Bank’s guidance. In parallel, the Central Bank has supplied local banks with freshly issued banknotes across multiple denominations to meet the heightened seasonal demand. These new notes are being made readily available at bank branches and through automated teller machines across Kuwait. To further enhance accessibility, a number of ATMs located in major shopping malls have been stocked with new banknotes, while select banks have introduced digital solutions, including delivery services for Eid gifts tailored to certain customer segments. These initiatives aim to streamline access to crisp currency notes, responding to the surge in demand from citizens and residents eager to uphold the cherished tradition of Eid gifting.
