Yang Xin, reiterated Beijing’s firm condemnation of any attacks targeting innocent civilians or non-military sites, stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Gulf states. He called for an immediate ceasefire and urgent de-escalation across the region. In a press statement, the ambassador commended the efforts of Kuwait’s leadership, headed by H.H. the Amir, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in preserving national sovereignty and protecting citizens, . He also expressed appreciation for the Kuwaiti government’s role in ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals and institutions, as well as facilitating the return of stranded individuals. He noted that China’s position comes as part of intensified diplomatic engagement, led by Zhai Jun, who has continued regional tours despite ongoing challenges. Zhai recently visited Kuwait heading the first high-level Chinese delegation since the escalation, holding extensive discussions with Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on ways to contain the crisis and promote calm. Yang emphasized that China views the ongoing conflict as “a war that should never have happened,” noting that it benefits no party. He stressed that past regional experiences have shown that military force is not a solution, as it only fuels further tension and hostility, calling instead for an immediate return to dialogue and negotiations. He added that Wang Yi — Wang Yi a senior Chinese politician and diplomat, and one of the most influential figures shaping China’s foreign policy today — has conducted intensive diplomatic outreach with counterparts across several countries, including Russia, Oman, Iran, France, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Egypt, to coordinate international efforts toward de-escalation. The ambassador reiterated China’s call for an immediate halt to military operations and prevention of further escalation, urging adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly the rejection of the use or threat of force in international relations. He affirmed China’s opposition to military strikes against Iran, while also condemning any attacks targeting Gulf states, stressing that the indiscriminate use of force is unacceptable under any circumstances. He further highlighted that China has urged all parties to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Gulf nations, while also calling on Iran to consider the concerns of neighboring countries. At the same time, he praised the Gulf states’ approach of restraint and commitment to peaceful solutions. Regarding Kuwait, the ambassador expressed regret over the impact of recent escalation, including damage to civilian infrastructure such as Kuwait International Airport and the loss of both civilian and military lives. He extended sincere condolences to the leadership and people of Kuwait. He concluded by reaffirming China’s commitment, as a long-standing partner of Middle Eastern countries, to promoting peace and justice, and its readiness to work closely with Kuwait and regional nations to advance global security initiatives, reduce tensions, and help restore stability in the region and beyond.
