The GCC Secretary-General Jassim Al-Budaiwi called on Arab countries to support a draft resolution submitted by GCC states to the UN Security Council condemning the hostile military operations carried out by Iran against Gulf states. Al-Budaiwi made the remarks during his participation in the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Arab League Council held via videoconference and chaired by the UAE. The meeting was attended by Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Arab foreign ministers and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League. At the outset of his remarks, Al-Budaiwi said the meeting comes at a “historic and critical moment” that requires Arab solidarity and unity to condemn the unjustified, illegal and immoral Iranian attacks targeting infrastructure and civilian and oil facilities in GCC countries. He also praised the supportive stances expressed by Arab states toward GCC countries in confronting these attacks. Al-Budaiwi urged brotherly Arab nations to back the Gulf-drafted resolution submitted to the Security Council, condemning Iran’s hostile military operations against GCC states and to call on the international community to take serious and concrete steps in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law. He expressed hope that Arab countries would mobilize broader international support for the resolution. – KUNA
