German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul urged Iran to engage in negotiations with the United States to bring the ongoing war in the Middle East to an end. Speaking during a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, Wadephul welcomed reports that Washington is seeking dialogue to resolve the conflict. “Iran’s regime would be well advised to accept this now,” Wadephul said, emphasizing that “if there is a window for diplomacy, we should definitely give talks a chance.” The German minister stressed the importance of seizing opportunities for peaceful resolution before further escalation occurs, dw.com reports. Wadephul is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) foreign ministers’ meeting in France, which begins Thursday. Rubio is expected to attend on Friday. The G7, consisting of the United States, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Italy, is expected to discuss the conflict and coordinate diplomatic efforts to end hostilities.
