India monitoring Middle East crisis as more than 52,000 citizens return home

The Government of India said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Middle East and particularly the Gulf region, with focus on the welfare of Indian nationals stranded in the region while in transit or on short-term visits. In a statement issued on March 7, the Ministry of External Affairs urged Indian citizens in affected countries to follow the guidance of local authorities and advisories issued by Indian embassies and consulates in their respective locations. Indian diplomatic missions across the region have established 24-hour helplines and issued detailed advisories to assist citizens facing difficulties due to the ongoing situation. The ministry has also set up a Special Control Room to handle queries from stranded Indians and their families and to coordinate assistance. With the partial reopening of airspace in the region, Indian and international airlines have resumed commercial and special flights to facilitate the return of stranded passengers. According to the ministry, more than 52,000 Indian nationals have travelled safely from Gulf countries to India between March 1 and March 7, including 32,107 passengers on Indian carriers. Additional flights are expected in the coming days. For Indian nationals in countries where commercial flights are still unavailable, authorities have advised them to contact the nearest Indian embassy or consulate for guidance on alternative travel arrangements. The Indian government reaffirmed that the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad remains a top priority, adding that it continues to coordinate with governments across the region to support those requiring assistance.
