Iran agrees to majority of US 15-point peace proposal, says Trump

US President Donald Trump announced late Sunday that Tehran has signaled its concurrence with the majority of a 15-point US ultimatum aimed at deescalating the ongoing conflict. “They gave us most of the points. Why wouldn’t they?” President Trump told reporters when questioned about Iran’s response to the US plan. “They’re agreeing with us on the plan. We asked for 15 things, and for the most part, we’re going to be asking for a couple of other things.” The President emphasized that Iran has agreed to facilitate the unhindered transit of US oil shipments, scheduled for tomorrow, as a confidence-building measure to “prove they’re serious” about the peace negotiations. Clarifying previous remarks regarding an Iranian “present,” Trump identified the gesture as “10 massive boatloads of oil,” adding that “today they gave us another present. They gave us 20 boatloads of oil that starts being shipped tomorrow.” The US leader disclosed that his administration is engaged in high-level deliberations, both directly and through intermediaries, noting that the talks are yielding “very important points.” While Washington reported progress, Tehran had initially signaled skepticism toward the plan last week and did not immediately accept the terms. Despite the reported cooperation, the US leader affirmed he is still considering the seizure of Iran’s Kharg Island, a primary fuel hub in the Arabian Gulf, noting that US forces would likely require an extended presence there if such a move were made. In a sweeping assessment of the Iranian leadership, Trump claimed that “regime change” has effectively materialized as a byproduct of the war. “The one regime was decimated... the next regime is mostly dead, and the third regime, we’re dealing with different people than anybody’s dealt with before,” he stated, characterizing the current interlocutors as “very reasonable”. — KUNA
