The Civil Service Commission (Kuwait) announced on Sunday that government employees currently stranded outside Kuwait will be exempted from work due to the closure of Kuwait’s airspace and the exceptional circumstances in the region. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the commission said that the period during which employees are unable to return to Kuwait will be considered as actual working time until they are able to return to the country, Kuna reports. The commission added that it has addressed government entities, public authorities, and state institutions to ensure proper handling of employees’ situations if they are unable to return because of the ongoing regional conditions. According to the statement, the decision aims to resolve the status of employees stranded abroad, confirming that the exemption period will be counted as official service time until flights resume or employees manage to return through other available means. The commission explained that the exemption period will be determined after the end of the employee’s approved leave or vacation, which they were originally expected to return from, based on decisions by their direct supervisors or relevant authorities. The matter will then be referred to the administrative affairs department or the relevant organizational unit within the government entity. Employees must also provide proof that they were outside the country during this period so the time can be officially recorded as active service in the government’s electronic systems, in accordance with established procedures.
