The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced Wednesday the dismantling of a Hezbollah-linked terror cell and the foiling of a plot to assassinate the State leaders and senior officials and harm the State’s higher interests. In a televised statement, the Ministry Spokesperson Brigadier Nasser Buslaib revealed that State Security Services thwarted the plot following “meticulous surveillance” and apprehended six cell members, including five Kuwaiti citizens and one individual whose Kuwaiti citizenship had been revoked recently. Investigations also identified an additional 14 fugitives currently abroad, comprising five Kuwaiti citizens, five individuals with revoked citizenship, two Iranian nationals, and two Lebanese nationals, he stated. Brigadier Buslaib added that the accused were found to be linked to the banned terrorist organization Hezbollah and were planning to assassinate state figures and leaders and recruit individuals to carry out these missions. He further noted that the accused confessed to espionage, joining the terrorist organization, and their readiness to carry out assigned tasks aimed at assassinating state figures and leaders and jeopardizing the country’s higher interests. He indicated that the cell members received advanced military training from Hezbollah leadership abroad, specifically in the use of weapons and explosives. Brigadier Buslaib added that the surveillance methods employed, coupled with assassination skills, constitute a grave act of treason against the nation and a blatant violation of loyalty. The detainees have been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action, while security authorities continue to pursue all individuals linked to or cooperating with this cell or any other terrorist organizations. Brigadier Buslaib added that the Ministry of Interior affirms that the security, sovereignty, and national stability of the State of Kuwait are inviolable and non-negotiable. He emphasized that the actions of this cell constitute a highly dangerous criminal act and high treason against the nation, as they directly targeted the security, symbols, and leaders of Kuwait and attempted to undermine its stability. The security services will be vigilant against anyone who dares to compromise the country’s security or cooperate with terrorist organizations and will take the strictest legal measures against anyone proven to be involved, without leniency or exception. This development follows two related security operations earlier this month. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced on March 16th the discovery and arrest of a Hezbollah-linked terrorist cell, comprising 14 citizens and two Lebanese nationals. The cell members were charged with attempting to destabilize the country and recruiting individuals to join the banned Hezbollah terrorist organization. On March 18th, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced that the State security service had thwarted a terrorist plot targeting vital installations in the country. Following intensive surveillance and investigations, ten Kuwaiti citizens belonging to a terrorist group affiliated with the banned Hezbollah terrorist organization were apprehended. The Ministry noted that the cell had been planning and coordinating with foreign entities, attempting to provide them with the coordinates of the targeted sites, thus posing a direct threat to the country’s security. – Kuna
