The State of Kuwait sent two identical letters to both the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council regarding the heinous attacks launched by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the State of Kuwait. These attacks indiscriminately targeted a number of civilian facilities, in flagrant violation of the country’s sovereignty and airspace, and in blatant breach of the fundamental principles of international law, the UN Charter, and the rules of international humanitarian law. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, the letters indicated that a number of people were killed as a result of these attacks, including two martyrs from the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, and dozens were wounded. In the identical letters, the State of Kuwait strongly condemned the Iranian attack targeting its territory and other countries in the region, and affirmed its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and to take whatever measures it deems appropriate to protect its territory, airspace, people, and residents. Kuwait also emphasized that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is indivisible and that any threat or attack targeting any member state is considered a threat or attack on the collective security of all. It called on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to condemn Iran’s unjustified attacks on countries in the region unequivocally and clearly, and to take measures to put an end to Iranian violations that undermine regional and international peace and security. — KUNA
