In a strategic move to boost commercial revenues and expand its retail footprint, Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company has secured approval from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to introduce a “central market” activity, allowing it to establish dedicated sales outlets across the local market. Under the new plan, the company will roll out its ‘Al-Matahin’ branded outlets at fuel stations operated by the Kuwait Petroleum International, with six locations set to launch in the initial phase. The move is part of a broader strategy to eventually operate around 200 outlets, drawing on Q8’s extensive European network of more than 4,500 service stations, reports Al-Rai daily. The expansion comes as the company continues to demonstrate resilience in maintaining food supply across Kuwait, despite regional disruptions linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions. Sources indicate that “Mills” has successfully ensured the steady availability of essential food items, reinforcing its role as a key pillar in the country’s food security framework. The new outlets are expected to go beyond offering the company’s own products, featuring a wider range of fast-moving consumer goods, including groceries and select non-food items tailored to the needs of customers at fuel stations. From a financial standpoint, the addition of the central market activity is projected to significantly enhance revenue streams, as the company transitions from traditional distribution through cooperative societies to operating fully integrated, standalone retail outlets. Analysts view the move as part of a broader expansion strategy aimed at strengthening the company’s presence in the local retail sector through a more advanced and competitive model. The initiative leverages the company’s established reputation for quality and affordability, supported by a fully integrated production process and adherence to international standards. The rollout also aligns with government efforts to modernize fuel stations, transforming them into comprehensive service hubs that offer consumers a seamless experience combining fuel, food, and convenience retail. This latest step builds on the company’s earlier diversification initiatives, including its “boutique” concept introduced in government school canteens, which provides students with healthier meal options through a modern buffet-style system.
