Kuwait Foreign Ministry summons Iraqi embassy charge d’affaires over armed factions’ attacks

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Aziz Al-Daihani, handed on Wednesday the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Iraq to Kuwait, Zaid Shanshul, a note of protest following attacks launched by Iraqi armed factions targeting Kuwaiti territory. According to KUNA, This came in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs saying that Ambassador Al-Daihani renewed Kuwait’s strongest condemnation of these dangerous practices, which violate its sovereignty, constitute a blatant breach of international law, and resulted in casualties among civilians and military personnel, in addition to significant material losses and damage. He affirmed that launching attacks against the State of Kuwait using Iraqi territory or the territory of any neighboring state amounts to a crime of aggression criminalized under international law and contradicts the principles of territorial integrity, stressing the importance of the Republic of Iraq taking practical and tangible steps to address and halt such attacks, it said. He also underscored Kuwait’s sovereign right, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, to defend its territory and vital facilities against any aggression or threat to its security, in a manner that guarantees the exercise of its inherent right of self-defense in line with international law, it added.
