Kuwait welcomed the adoption by consensus of a United Nations Human Rights Council resolution addressing the human rights implications of what it described as “unjustified Iranian attacks” targeting the GCC states and Jordan. In a statement on Thursday, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the resolution, introduced through a joint diplomatic initiative by GCC countries and Jordan, reflects a unified international stance rejecting such attacks and condemning the targeting of sovereign states not party to the conflict. The resolution highlights the serious violations of fundamental rights and the direct threat posed to regional and international peace and security, it added. The ministry praised the resolution’s firm condemnation of attacks on civilians and vital infrastructure, which resulted in casualties and significant material damage. It also commended the international consensus underscoring the need for the Islamic Republic of Iran to comply with its legal obligations, foremost among them respecting state sovereignty and territorial integrity, immediately ceasing hostilities, ensuring non-recurrence, and assuming responsibility for compensation for the resulting damages. The statement further noted that the strong international support for the resolution demonstrates firm solidarity with GCC states and Jordan, and complements broader diplomatic efforts that led to the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). Kuwait stressed the importance of establishing effective international follow-up mechanisms to ensure the implementation of the resolution’s provisions, in a manner that upholds the rule of law and reinforces the principles of the UN Charter. The ministry reiterated Kuwait’s commitment, in its capacity as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2024-2026 term, to continue playing an active role in safeguarding the international human rights system and working with global partners to ensure the implementation of council resolutions, thereby strengthening global stability. –KUNA
