Kuwait’s Armed Forces intercepted several hostile aerial targets after the country’s airspace was breached early on Sunday, March 8, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense. Speaking on behalf of the ministry, official spokesman Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi said air defence systems detected seven hostile ballistic missiles. Three of the missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed, while four others were not engaged as they were outside the threat range and posed no danger. Air defence units also detected five hostile drones. Two of the drones were destroyed, while three were not intercepted. According to the statement, two of the drones targeted the vicinity of Kuwait International Airport, leading to explosions in fuel tanks. Another drone struck the building of the Public Institution for Social Security in Kuwait City, causing material damage. The General Staff of the Army said that explosion sounds heard in some areas of the country were the result of air defence systems intercepting hostile aerial targets. Authorities urged the public to follow all security and safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities. The Kuwaiti Armed Forces affirmed that they remain on high alert and ready to respond to any threats, stressing their commitment to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, security and stability, and protecting national interests and capabilities.
