Oman: Two die due to thunderstorms, authorities issue warnings

Several governorates of Oman witnessed Saturday heavy thunderstorms Saturday resulting in the deaths of two people, while authorities issued warnings and urged people to be cautious during thunderstorms expected to continue until Sunday. In a statement, the civil defense and ambulance authority said it dealt with 12 reports – since noon – that some people were stuck in their vehicles due to accumulated waters, nine of them were saved and two others died. The authority added that it also handled 18 reports in some governorates, and the teams’ efforts resulted in the rescue and evacuation of 30 people from inside houses due to rising rainwater levels, affirming that everyone is in good health. The latest weather maps from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre indicate the continued possibility of thunderstorms on Sunday, across several governorates of Oman, it noted. – Kuna
