Tamu Society Kuwait leads major blood donation drive amid regional tensions

By Raj Malla Special to The Times Kuwait Tamu Society Kuwait has organized its 10th large-scale blood donation drive in response to a request from Kuwait’s Central Blood Bank, amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and concerns over potential emergency needs. The event, held at the Central Blood Bank in Jabriya, saw the participation of 126 donors, including members of the Nepali community as well as Indian, Filipino, Bangladeshi, and Sri Lankan nationals. The turnout highlighted a message of solidarity, humanitarian cooperation, and community support during a sensitive regional period. The program was held under the patronage of Nepal’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Ghanshyam Lamsal, with the presence of representatives from various community organizations, including the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Kuwait and the Federation of Nepali Journalists Kuwait. Tamu Society Kuwait President Ranjana Gurung said the initiative was organized in direct response to the blood bank’s urgent appeal, emphasizing the group’s ongoing commitment to the principle that “blood donation is life donation.” Officials from the blood bank and hospital administration praised the initiative, noting its importance in strengthening emergency preparedness and supporting life-saving medical needs. They also expressed appreciation to all donors and encouraged continued participation in similar humanitarian efforts.
