Two men jailed for spreading rumors on social media

The Criminal Court has sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three years imprisonment for spreading false news on his Instagram account. The man was arrested by the State Security Service of the Ministry of Interior. In a separate ruling, the court sentenced another citizen to one year in prison with hard labor and ordered the suspension of his account on the “X” platform, also for publishing false information, based on a complaint filed by the State Security Service, reports Al-Qabas daily. The cases form part of a series of legal proceedings currently being reviwed by the courts after referrals from the Ministry of Interior, reflecting ongoing efforts to safeguard public security and curb the spread of misinformation that could cause public concern or undermine stability.
