UAE, Ukraine discuss regional security, call for protecting civilian infrastructure

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have discussed recent developments in the regional security situation amid rising military escalation and its broader implications for regional and global peace, as well as international navigation and the global economy. The meeting also addressed ongoing Iranian attacks on the UAE and other countries in the region, which were described as targeting civilians, infrastructure, and vital facilities. President Zelensky reiterated his condemnation of these attacks, stating that they constitute a violation of state sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter, and undermine regional and international security, reports Al-Rai daily. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed affirmed that the UAE is handling the situation with restraint and wisdom, aimed at preventing further escalation in the region. At the same time, he stressed that the country will firmly defend its sovereignty and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing its full readiness to confront threats and exercise its legitimate right to self-defense under international law. The two leaders also reviewed bilateral cooperation and explored opportunities to strengthen ties within the framework of the comprehensive economic partnership between the UAE and Ukraine. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed further reiterated the UAE’s support for international efforts and initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.
